Little Scott McClennan takes on the White House

Among the revelations in the former press secretary’s memoir, to be released next week:

  • President Bush “convinces himself to believe what suits his needs at the moment.”
  • Bush has engaged in “self-deception” to justify his political end.
  • The decision to invade Iraq was a “serious strategic blunder.”
  • The biggest mistake the Bush White House made was “a decision to turn away from candor and honesty when those qualities were most needed.”
Go, Scott, go!
I’m all for this stuff coming to light at some point. But it pisses me off when all these retired cabinet members, staff, generals, etc.. write their books outlining what they view as basically treasonous acts (and clearly are) yet none of them had the pride and morality at the time to resign with public comment rather than play along in the deceptions for years first before cashing out. He’s as guilty as the rest of them, and should have quit rather than spread rove/cheney and libby’s lies. Scott hope the book advance buys you some comfort from what you were complicit in…

bite’s right, its pretty cowardly to wait instead of stand by your convictions when it actually counted.

Good take on this bite. McClellan was routinely taken to task by the White House press corps for being exceedingly short and condescending in his answers during press conferences. He also had an annoying habit of occasionally starting a good give & take with the press where they felt they were on the verge of a revelation from the Press Sec., but he would always pull back and usually do it with a coy smirk. I would be willing to bet that he had drafts written & ready to go before he gave his resignation.  Makes me wonder how many books are in the planning stages from people in the Obama campaign. A historic run like his should produce at least one good read but figure on dozens littering bookstores this time next year.
